30 Seconds To Mars Music Video's

Multi award winning rock band 30 Seconds To Mars were formed in 1998 by lead vocalist Jared Leto and his drummer - brother Shannon. Lead guitarist Tomo MIlicevic completes the band's current line up.

30 Seconds To Mars have three albums out to date, 30 Seconds To Mars (2002), A Beautiful Lie (2005) and This Is War (2009)

30 Seconds To Mars are known worldwide not just for there music but also for there epic music video's that are more like short films.

After releasing "Normal" music videos for Capricorn, Edge of the Earth, and Attack, the band took a drastic new turn when they released The Kill music video. Based entirely on the american horror film The Shining, the video re-creates some scenes from the original film . the video has won numerous awards and was even voted the greatest rock video ever on the music channel Kerrang in 2009. A strange man appeared after the making of the film, Director, who according to Jared Leto, was an Albino Danish man named Bartholomew Cubbins.

Next came the music video for From Yesterday. It was the first American music video to be filmed entirely in China and featured 400 Chinese soldiers and even 20 horses.  The video again was directed by Bartholomew Cubbins. The video tells the story of a young chinese emperor who wants "the sound of tomorrow" for his birthday, 30 Seconds To Mars then appear in the emperor's temple. The band then look around the temple and see a number of strange things happening. The four members then end up fighting with samurai swords wearing mask's so they can not see who each other is. They then reveal that they are in fact the full line up of the band. There is also an extended version of the video lasting an amazing 17 minutes.

The next music video was for A Beautiful Lie and in a way the band went back to there original videos by having the band performing, but this been 30 Seconds To Mars, there is a twist. The entire video was filmed on location in Greenland, Very isolated and very.... very cold. A website was set up www.abeautifullie.org which tells the viewer the importance of global warming and its effects, in the same way the music video does.

The first single from the bands third album was Kings & Queens. The music video was once again directed by Bartholomew Cubbins and shows the band and fans all riding bikes around downtown LA at night. Not a single car on the road, just bikes, But the a car does appear and knocks a cyclist over. In my opinion this is the director's way of saying "its good to be the same, but were all very different" as every cyclist is dressed differently and is on a different bike. Jared Leto has said the video is "basically a love letter to Los Angeles".  The video has been called The Ride.

Once again Bartholomew Cubbins directed the video for Closer To The Edge. This video was unlike any before it for the band as it was a montage of the band been on tour both performing and showing the fans what the band did in there leisure time, including  Jared Leto looking out over what appears to be The Grand Canyon.

It was Bartholomew Cubbin's video for Hurricane that has brought the band to the attention of the public who might not of heard or liked 30 Seconds To Mars before.  The video was banned by MTV and several other major TV networks.  The video was originally going to last 20 minutes, but after it was banned the band had to cut it down to a length of 13 minutes 10 seconds. The video tells the story of the 3 band members experiencing different things in the night. The video contains a number of sexual and explicit  scene's involving sex and violence. The film is split into chapters. Chapter one - Birth, Chapter two - Life, Chapter three - Death. Jared Leto has said in interviews that he did not expect all the fuss about the video but in a way its a good thing because it raises the profile of the video.

In a strange way the video reminds me of the film The Warriors. I think it because it's all filmed on the streets in America and is about the band vs the gimps. The Warriors is filmed all at night in New York and is about rival street gangs fighting.

Oh and incase you haven't worked it out yet Bartholomew Cubbins is Jared Leto's pseudonym name. The name comes from the title character of Dr. Seuss' book The 500 hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. Jared Leto you are a genius.
