After.Life Review

Poster
After.Life was released in 2009 and directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz- Vosloo.

The film star's Liam Neeson, Christina Ricci and Justin Long

After-Life tells the story of Anna Taylor (Ricci) who dies in a car accident, or does she? Anna wakes up in the funeral home and funeral director Elliot Deacon (Neeson) claims she is actually dead but she is stuck between the living and the dead, and only Neeson can talk to her or see her alive, but Anna's boyfriend Paul (Long) does not believe that his girlfriend is dead.

The film had mostly negative reviews from critic's.

Ricci plays a teacher, which straight away makes the audience like her, she looks after and teach's children so this is a nice character that people can relate to. Close to the start of the film, Ricci is walking down a corridor in the school and the light's from the corridor begin to go out, this could represent death following her.

The music throughout the film sets the atmosphere very well, it's very creepy music. Played on a piano and only using a number of low keys.

When Ricci dies in the car accident a white van is seen following he car, immediately a coroner's van popped into my head and then I thought of Liam Neeson's character. This theory was later proved correct at the end of the film.

Everything Neeson does as the coroner seems perfect, most serial killers in films like their crimes to be committed perfectly and they will often take a souvenir to remember their crime by, Neeson takes photo's of his victims.

The film is filled with lots of spooky shot's of a morgue at night, this raises the audience's fear level as they expect something to happen to make them jump, but sadly nothing ever does happen.

The film then just finished. No real explanation. To fully understand what I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching  I had to watch the special feature's where the director explained that Anna is actually alive.

The film was a bitter disappointment as people had told me it was a good film. The clue's are there in the film, but to fully understand it, you need to watch it, then the special feature interview with the director and then watch the film again, and even then it probably wont make much sense.

After.Life - 1/5
