Why does Hollywood feel to need to remake everything?

After hearing the news that Spanish horror film The Orphanage  was to get a US remake, I started to wonder why Hollywood feels the need to remake everything.

Films not in the english language, especially horror films, have really started to captivate American audiences because they are so different to the horror films that are made in Hollywood, which are basically the same film with different characters.

I was reading an article by Guillermo Del Toro, who produced The Orphanage, and he said that the american remake would be very different to the original. So I asked myself, whats the point in remaking it and changing it when you could make a completely different film and not associate it with the Spanish version at all. Then I told myself the answer to that question. Fans who like the Spanish version will undoubtedly go see the american remake, meaning it already has a fan base. It will be a success money-wise even if the film is terrible. This really annoys me. The fact that producers will latch onto a successful and good film just to promote their own film. Any film can gain public awareness with the right advertising, Cloverfield, Monsters and The Blair Witch Project were all massive success and they had nothing to do with any other films at all, but they did all have very clever and unique advertising camp-gains.

[REC] is another very good and successful  Spanish horror film which Hollywood felt the need to remake. [REC] was released in 2007 and in 2008 Quarantine was released in the U.S and is basically a shot for shot remake. What is the point? A shot for shot remake of a film that was only released a year earlier. The success of [REC] lead to [REC] 2 been released and once again it was a success. [REC]2 was released in 2009 and sure enough in 2011 Quarantine 2: Terminal was released and so far as been a box office failure. Quarantine 2 has nothing to do with [REC]2 which could lead to it been a box office failure. I have a feeling that when [REC] Genesis and [REC] Apocalypse are released, the U.S will once again swoop in again and remake them, badly.

Please, for the love of god Hollywood, stop remaking horror films and think of your own dam ideas. All the people who work in Hollywood and nobody can think of a new and original idea. If this is the case... Hollywood is in serious trouble.
