50 Great Geek Out Moments

While reading SciFi Now's 101 greatest geek out moments I decided I would have a go at doing a list myself. So here is my 50 greatest geek out moments. Enjoy.

1. Comic Book legend Grant Morrison appears in My Chemical Romance's video for their hit single NaNaNa.

2. The santa that stabs Simon Pegg at the start of Hot Fuzz is played by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.

3. Before Nicolas Cage was cast as Big Daddy in Kick Ass, both Mark Whalberg and Daniel Craig were considered for the role.

4. Horror master John Carpenter turned down the chance to direct Zombieland.

5.Cult classic The Warriors was originally planned with Orson Wells narrating.

6. When Brad Pitt is talking to the Fight Club members about how people have been raised on television to believe they will become millionaires and stars, he looks at Jared Leto as he says rock stars. Jared formed the rock band 30 Seconds To Mars.

7. In the scene outside the hospital, in The Dark Knight, just before it explodes, the explosives on set had stalled so Heath Ledger improvised the scene and played around with the bomb remote.

8. Iron Man director Jon Favreau was offered the role of Chandler Bing in Friends.

9. Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise were both interested in playing Tony Stark/ Iron Man.

10. Kick Ass director Matthew Vaughn was originally set to direct Thor, but dropped out.

11. Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis, Sean Penn and Javier Bardem were all considered to play Moriarty (Jared Harris) in Guy Ritchie's upcoming Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

19. Alfred Hitchcock bought the rights to the Psycho novel for nine thousand dollars, he then bought as many copies as he could find to keep the ending a secret.

20. Tim Curry and Malcolm McDowell were both considered for the role of Scar in The Lion King.

21. The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger wanted to play Dr Frank in Rocky Horror Picture Show

22. Meat Loaf was offered the lead vocalist position in rock band Foreigner but declined to stay with writing partner Jim Steinman.

23. When Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in 1967, it was the first album to feature all the song lyrics in the sleeve.

24. The Queen albums "A day at the race's" and "A night at the opera" were named after films of the same name staring the Marx Brothers.

25. Little Britain star David Walliams was considered for the 10th Doctor Who before David Tennant was cast.

28. From Hell directors originally wanted Daniel Day Lewis to play the lead role, when that fell through the Hughes Brothers interviewed Sean Connery, Jude Law and Brad Pitt before Johnny Depp was cast.

29. Daniel Day Lewis and Bill Nighly were considered for the role of Withnial in Withnial & I

30. Liam Neeson's character, Bryan, kills 35 people in Taken.

31. Kurt Russell was offered a role in John Carpenter's The Fog.

32. Mickey Rourke, Sylvester Stallone and Ving Rhames were all considered for Stuntman Mike in Death Proof.

33. Nicolas Cage was offered the role of Green Goblin/ Norman Osbourne in Spider Man.

34. In National Treasure the "good guys" use google while the "bad guys" use Yahoo!

35. Quentin Tarantino was an uncredited screenwriter on The Rock.

36. Eva Green, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Gemma Arterton and Keira Knightley were among the actresses that auditioned for the role of Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises before Anne Hathaway was cast.

37. Daniel Radcliffe, Aaron Johnson, Joseph Gordon - Levitt and Michael Cera were considered for the lead role in the upcoming The Amazing Spider Man before Andrew Garfield was cast.

38. Robert Downey Jr was set to play Jake in Cowboys and Aliens but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Daniel Craig eventually replaced him.

39. Daniel Craig was considered for the role of Rorschach in Watchmen.

40. Alien was originally to be directed by Walter Hill but he pulled out and gave the directors chair to Ridley Scott.

41. Peter Jackson wanted either Robert De Niro or George Clooney to play Carl Denham in King Kong. Jack Black was cast.

42. In order to connect with the feeling of loss required to play his part in The Pianist, Adrian Brody sold his apartment and car and stopped watching T.V

43. The actors in Paranormal Activity were not giving a script, just guidelines on what to talk about and what to do in each scene.

44. Halloween: Resurrection was first called Halloween: The Homecoming.

45. Halloween H20 was put into production after Jamie Lee Curtis suggested a 20 year anniversary with original Halloween director John Carpenter. Carpenter declined the invitation.

46. Before Rob Zombie's Halloween was put into production, there were rumours about a film entitled Halloween: The Missing Years, which would have been a prequel focusing on Michael's early days in the asylum.

47. Emma Stone auditioned for the role of Laurie in Rob Zombie's Halloween.

48. Sam Raimi was originally set to direct 30 Days of Night until David Slade was chosen as director. Raimi stayed as a producer.

49. Terry Gilliam turned down the chance to direct American Beauty.

50. Paul W.S Anderson stepped down from directing Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Mortal Combat to write and direct Alien Vs Predator.
