Saw

Today I watched James Wan's Saw for the first time in ages.

It reminded me of all the negativity surrounding the film and the whole Saw franchise.

The first Saw film was released in 2004. Directed by James Wan and starring Cary Elwes, Leigh Whannell and Danny Glover. The genius screenplay was written by actor Leigh Whannell and the story was thought up by actor Whannell and director Wan.

In my opinion Saw often gets overlooked as the classic that it is. It often gets labelled as a sick and gory film that has no story and is just full of blood. Some people will even go as far as to label it "torture porn" which is ridicules. After watching it today the only part I can remember where there is some extreme violence is when Dr Lawrence (Elwes) cuts through his own leg, but this is filmed in such a good way all we see is the doctor's reaction and some blood squirt and splatter on his face. Its the rest of the Saw films that are gory and are lacking story as they are practically the same as the first film, but with different traps.

Saw is genius. Absolutely brilliant. I love the story and the ideas thought up by Wan and Whannell, although they are some sick ideas, they work so well in a horror film especially such a small scale horror film. I love the fact that the killer never actually kills anybody and the bit at the end where the killer stands up is genius. Genius.

James Wan is a very good horror director who deserves a whole lot more credit then he is currently getting.
