Super 8 - J. J Abrams

Super 8 is quickly, very quickly, becoming my most anticipated film of the year.

Since my last blog on Super 8, a lot has happened. There was an trailer for the film attached to this years Super Bowl, which told us a number of things.

FACTS

1. The film will be set in 1979 America
2. It centres around a group of children making a short zombie film using a super 8 camera
3. While filming near some rail road the group witness a truck crash into a U.S Air Force train causing it to derail.
4. Out of the wreckage something emerges. Something mysterious, unseen and almost certainly alien.

The budget is believed to be around 45 million dollars, which give Abrams and Spielberg plenty of money to create their alien.

Im glad the film has no direct to reference to Cloverfield, as a second film about a alien lost in the city simply looking for its parents does not appeal to me. I really enjoyed Cloverfield, but Im glad Abrams is going in a new direction with this film.

The film is obviously surrounded in mystery, Abrams is in charge it would not feel right if it was not all mysterious, so naturally nobody knows anything about this film apart from the facts.

Even the poster doesn't tell us anything. If simply features the title, a picture of a super 8 lens with a crack on, although there is blood on it, a tagline which reads It arrives in 2011. This almost confirms that it is a alien film by calling the subject it. Even the bottom of the poster only features the director's name, the producer and the studio's behind it.

Abrams has a unique way of advertising his films. It's this kind of advertising that make films appeal to myself more. Like I said in an earlier blog - Who doesn't like a good mystery?
